About The Role
Vailo is growing and looking to add a Specialty Lines Underwriter to our team. We are open to hiring at either a junior or intermediate level depending on experience and expertise. This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys building relationships, solving complex problems, and helping shape solutions for clients in specialized and evolving industries.
The successful candidate will primarily focus on new business production while also managing a portion of renewal business. This role will work across a diverse portfolio of specialty products and play an important role in driving profitable growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite and assess new business opportunities across specialty lines products
- Manage a portion of renewal accounts and maintain strong broker relationships
- Analyze risk exposures, coverage requirements, and pricing considerations
- Develop creative underwriting solutions tailored to unique client needs
- Build and strengthen relationships with brokers and industry partners
- Actively engage in business development and networking activities
- Contribute to profitable portfolio growth while maintaining underwriting discipline
- Collaborate with internal teams to support strategy and client outcomes
Product lines include
- Miscellaneous E&O
- Technology E&O
- Medical Malpractice Liability
- Architects & Engineers Professional Liability
- Environmental Liability
What we're looking for
- Experience underwriting or broking Specialty Lines products.
- Junior candidates: 2–3 years of insurance industry experience.
- Intermediate candidates: 3+ years of insurance industry experience.
- Strong analytical and risk assessment skills
- A relationship-focused mindset with a genuine interest in networking and business development
- Creative problem-solving abilities and comfort working with complex risks
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while collaborating effectively with a team
Additional information
- Based in Vancouver, Calgary, or Toronto, with remote work considered for the right candidate
- Travel is not required for the role but opportunities to attend industry events and strengthen broker relationships are encouraged
