About The Role

We are seeking a Financial & Professional Services Underwriter for our Specialty Insurance team, an individual who is ready to embrace and manage complex risks associated with Specialty Insurance products. In this role, you'll work closely with our senior leadership team to develop and generate new business. Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze risks, assess underwriting submissions, and make sound decisions.
  • Develop, negotiate, and manage a portfolio of accounts in alignment with Vailo’s strategic goals.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, brokers, and internal stakeholders, providing exceptional customer service.
  • Assist the senior leadership team with the development and refinement of specialty insurance products.
  • Attend local industry events representing Vailo’s specialty division.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • A University degree, insurance-related certifications like CIP or equivalent working experience
  • Proven experience in underwriting, with a focus on one or more of the following products: Miscellaneous E&O, Architects/Engineers E&O, Directors & Officers Liability.
  • Proficiency in underwriting tools, systems, and data analysis techniques, with an ability to evaluate risks, determine appropriate coverage, and calculate premiums.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and effective time management skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills, adaptability to changing market conditions and underwriting guidelines, and ability to handle multiple underwriting files simultaneously.
  • Comprehensive understanding of underwriting guidelines, policy wordings, pricing tools, and the regional insurance market.
  • Help to coach and mentor Underwriters and Underwriting Associates
  • Maintains continuous learning and professional development.
  • High ethical standards, adherence to industry regulations and guidelines, and the ability to handle sensitive information discreetly.
